School Readiness -

A One-Time Open Forum for Parents

Starting preschool or school is a big step - not just for your child, but for you, too!

If your child is about to start school, you might be wondering - Are they really ready??

Maybe they still have trouble sitting still, following routines, or making new friends.
Maybe you're unsure if they should already be writing their name or recognizing letters…
And sometimes it feels like other kids are ahead, and that can be stressful.
You want to help your child, but you don’t want to turn home into school.

If any of this sounds familiar - you’re not alone! These questions are so common, and they make perfect sense.

So, what does “School Readiness” actually mean?

It’s more than knowing letters or numbers. A school-ready child is able to separate from a caregiver with minimal distress, follow simple routines, and participate in group activities. They can express themselves clearly, manage small frustrations, and show curiosity and persistence when learning something new.

Readiness also includes basic coordination (like running, jumping, or using scissors), self-care skills (like using the toilet or opening lunch containers), and early academic foundations—such as recognizing letters, following directions, or showing interest in books. In short, it’s about being emotionally, socially, physically, and cognitively ready to join a group learning environment.
